SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL LIGHT

The Shanghai Municipal Greening and City Appearance Administration announced that the inaugural Shanghai International Light  Festival will be held from September 19 to October 18. The event features one main venue at the Shanghai Exhibition Center and 12 sub-venues across different districts, including Pudong New Area, Huangpu, and Jing'an. Each district will host sub-venue activities based on the theme and characteristics unique to that area.

The festival will include a total of 129 events, such as architectural projection shows, light and shadow shows, light art installations, light concerts, float parades, and cultural art exhibitions. These events will take place across 119 commercial, cultural, and recreational venues, including major shopping districts, public cultural facilities, key tourist attractions, important transportation hubs, municipal sports centers, large exhibition halls, and urban parks.

The entrance to the Changning sub-venue of this year’s Light  Festival is located at the Anxi Road entrance of Columbia Circle. Here, visitors will pass through the "Gate of Light Creation" and the "Light Matrix" to reach the main show, *The Adventures of Light and Shadow.* This light show, specially designed for Changning, uses the exterior walls of the Navy Club as its backdrop. Divided into three acts, it tells the story of the Hungarian architect László Hudec and his deep connection with Changning. Through 20 hand-drawn illustrations, the show vividly showcases all of Hudec's architectural works in Changning, allowing visitors to appreciate their past, present, and future. The light show lasts for 3 minutes and runs every 30 minutes on a continuous loop.

The *Magical Book* installation at Tsutaya Bookstore is one of the most interactive light exhibits of the Light and Shadow Festival, specially designed for children. “Wow, that’s amazing,” exclaimed kids who were captivated and couldn’t tear themselves away. The installation follows the theme *Miracles of the Four Seasons: Tales from the Classic of Mountains and Seas.* By flipping through the pages, children can see magical creatures representing snow, sea, flowers, rain, and mountains, embarking on a wonderful journey of discovery.
